Superwhisper vs Wispr Flow: which to pick in 2026
Superwhisper costs less and can transcribe on your Mac with local models. Wispr Flow costs $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly, and its data page says transcription "always occurs on the cloud." Pick Superwhisper for lower cost and offline use. Pick Wispr Flow if you want to hold a key and talk, and cloud transcription doesn't bother you.
I build Voz, which competes with both. Prices are as of November 2026, and each claim links to its source.

Where your speech is processed
Wispr Flow's data controls page says "Transcription always occurs on the cloud." It also says that if you allow data sharing, "your data (i.e. audio, transcript, edits) may be used to evaluate, train, or improve AI models." You control that setting, and the page says feedback you submit is handled separately.
Superwhisper's privacy policy says cloud audio is "processed in memory and are not stored after the request completes." It says it does not use your data for AI training. Its cloud models send audio to third-party providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic, who process it under their own terms.
Offline use
Wispr Flow's data page doesn't say whether dictation works without a connection. Because transcription happens on the cloud, expect it to need one.
Superwhisper says it "works offline, so you can transcribe anytime." It adds that offline models "only run really well on Apple Silicon macs." On an Intel Mac, use cloud models.
Setup and control
In my view, Wispr Flow is the simpler start. You install it, then hold a key and talk.
Superwhisper asks you to choose a language model and a voice model in each mode's settings. Its site lists GPT-5, Claude Haiku 4.5, Llama 4 and others, plus Whisper Large for voice. It also has Custom Modes with your own prompts. You get more control over the output, and more to set up.
Platforms
Both apps run dictation on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Superwhisper's Meetings feature is Mac only. If you need one tool across every device you own, either one covers that.
Which one should you pick?
- Pick Superwhisper if you want offline dictation, a lower price, or control over the models and prompts. The Superwhisper review covers the features in more detail.
- Pick Wispr Flow if you want the least setup and you're fine sending audio to a cloud service. The Wispr Flow review covers its pricing and limits.
- Neither if you want no subscription and no cloud. See Voz below.
A third option: Voz
Voz is a free, open source dictation app for Mac. It transcribes on your Mac with NVIDIA's Parakeet models and cleans up the text with Apple's on-device model. It works offline, with no account and no word limit.
Voz is Mac only, and it needs an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 26. It supports 25 languages. It has no modes to configure. Instead, you extend it with TypeScript extensions, for example to turn "send it" into the Return key.
