Wispr Flow alternatives for Mac

The best free Wispr Flow alternative for Mac is Voz. It's free, open source under the MIT license, and it transcribes on your Mac with no word limit. VoiceInk and Hex are also open source, and Superwhisper's free plan allows unlimited dictation with local models.

I build Voz, the first app on this list, so weigh my take accordingly. I've linked each claim to the app's own page or repository. Prices and features are as of November 2026.

Open source options

Voz

Voz types clean text at your cursor after you tap right Command, talk and tap again. It removes "um"s and fixes punctuation. Speech recognition runs on your Mac with NVIDIA's Parakeet models, and cleanup runs on Apple's on-device language model. Audio never leaves your Mac, and it works offline.

Voz needs Apple Silicon and macOS 26. It supports 25 languages, and it has no Windows, Linux or phone app. It's younger and smaller than most of the apps here.

You can change how it works. Small TypeScript files in ~/.voz/extensions add voice commands, file a Linear issue from a sentence, or turn rambling into a prompt for a coding agent. Published extensions are on npm.

Hex

Hex is an open source (MIT) app for local dictation. It's the app that came closest to what I wanted before I built Voz. Its README says it's "local voice dictation for Mac, Windows and Linux," with builds for Apple silicon Macs, Windows and Linux. The README doesn't state a minimum macOS version.

VoiceInk

VoiceInk is a Mac app under the GPL-3.0 license. Its GitHub page says it transcribes "100% offline" and needs macOS 15 or later. You can buy a license from its site, which includes automatic updates and priority support, or build it yourself from the source at no cost.

Closed source options

Superwhisper

Superwhisper runs on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. Its free plan includes unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, up to two modes, and custom vocabulary. The modes don't use AI. Pro adds cloud models, AI modes and file transcription, according to its plans page.

Choose Superwhisper if you want many modes and a choice of models. For a direct comparison, read Wispr Flow vs Superwhisper.

Glaido

Glaido runs on macOS, Windows 11 and Linux. Its free plan allows 2,000 words a week, and Pro costs $17 a user a month billed yearly. Its pricing page doesn't say where transcription happens.

Apple Dictation

Dictation is built into macOS. Turn it on in System Settings > Keyboard, then press the Microphone key or your chosen shortcut. Apple says dictation "is not available in all languages or regions," and it has no timeout for the length of what you say. It costs nothing and needs nothing installed.
